Popular Fictional Character of “Criminal Minds”

Many fictional characters have been able to enjoy top popularity among the readers of books and viewers of TV shows. An example is the character of Dr. Spencer Reid; a fictional character of the CBS crime drama “Criminal Minds”. The character was played by actor Mathew Gray Gubler and it portrays a genius. Reid as portrayed in the popular crime drama was not a superman with hidden powers but had many qualities that made him stand out in the crowd.

Spencer Reid the Genius

The character of Dr Reid as a genius has multiple land mark achievements. He has an IQ that is massive at 187. The youngest member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of FBI is highly qualified with 3 PhDs under his belt. The three doctoral degrees are in the fields of chemistry, engineering, and mathematics. Apart from these Spencer Reid also specializes in statistics as well as geographical profiling.

Unique Character of Spencer Reid

Born on the 28th day of October 1981 in Las Vegas, Spencer was closer to his mother Diana Reid in comparison to his father William Reid. The out of the world character is portrayed as one that can read twenty thousand words per minute whereas an average person can hardly read 200–300 words per minute. In short; the central character in the crime drama “Criminal Minds” has been created as a super human.

How it Started

It all started for Spencer when he was just 4 years old. His 6 year old neighbor Riley Jenkins was raped and murdered. His mother witnessed father of the rape victim killing the suspect using a baseball bat. She accidentally slips and gets blood all over her dress. In order to protect his wife, Williams burned all these dresses but was witnessed by Spencer developing a wrong feeling that his father was a murderer. Several years later Spencer Reid started getting nightmares with the firm belief that his father was the culprit. Later during investigations by the BAU team of FBI the body of Michael was recovered and Diana identifies Jenkins the father of the rape victim as the killer and also narrated the entire story to Reid.

Web of Mystery Deepens

The web of mystery further deepens in the crime drama “Criminal Minds” that started with the experiences of the central character in the childhood. One was the rape and murder of a child. A second one was suspecting his own father in the crime and the third one was his father’s abandoning him and his mother.

No less important in the crime drama is the bullying and victimization of Spencer Reid in school by other students. In essence, the character of Reid is designed on fighting with the odds and overcoming them. The legendary character portrayed by Mathew Gray Gubler gives a message to the society to face and not fly away from life’s challenges.
